Unveiled at Toy Fair in New York last week, the 2013 LEGO Lord of the Rings sets look to be “must haves”.  We loooooves them, my precious!  All these sets will be available in June.

This little set will be worth it for that Saruman minifigure alone! And lots of cool black detailing parts.

While a touch on the expensive side for my tastes, the minifigures are awesome.  We already have Gimli and Frodo, but Arwen and Elrond make up for that.  Also a decent part selection with a lot of cheese slopes, tans, and grays.  And do my eyes deceive me, or are those dark orange foliage pieces???

O. M. G. What more can I say about this set? Wow. EXCELLENT price for an excellent set. While Gandalf the White looks a lot like Saruman, I am very excited to get the Mouth of Sauron! This character was frightening in the movie. I didn’t think there was any way we’d see him in minifigure form! That Aragorn is very well done, as is the Great Eagle.  I count at least 40 black cheese slopes in the gate itself. Lots of good little bits here.

Mighty fine looking LEGO pirate ship. I see a lot of possibilities there. And yet another Gimli. And another nice Aragorn. A BUNCH of really cool, generic shields. These are going to show up all over the place in castle models! While I love the idea of the King of the Dead and his subjects, I’m not sure of their long-term usefulness outside of LEGO Lord of the Rings models.

All told, I am very excited for this next wave of LEGO Lord of the Rings goodness!
