I love books. I love being able to hold them in my hand, and flip through the pages. I love the feel of the paper beneath my fingertips. I will never go digital when it comes to reading. Because of my love of books, I feel truly honored to have the opportunity to review LEGO books by DK Publishing.

Today, I am reviewing LEGO Star Wars The Visual Dictionary Updated And Expanded. Whew, that’s a mouthful!

I love the cover on this version of the Star Wars Visual Dictionary.  It’s got an almost holographic silvery shimmer to it.  Like the pearl coating on the inside of a seashell.  It’s quite striking.LEGO-Star-Wars-Visual-Dictionary-Luke-Skywalker

This updated Star Wars Visual Dictionary comes with an exclusive LEGO Luke Skywalker minifigure in hie Tatooine garb.  It’s a great looking minifig.  I love the painting on the legs, and I’m really glad they didn’t go with the messy hair he’s been getting recently.LEGO-Star-Wars-Visual-Dictionary-jedi-starfighters

One of the first things that struck me in this Star Wars Visual Dictionary is how many versions of the Jedi Starfighter were released!  I love all the different color variations, and the variety of astromechs they introduced.  Very cool feature of the book seeing all the similar sets in one shot like this.LEGO-Star-Wars-Visual-Dictionary-minifigures

I REALLY like the impressive minifigure gallery at the end of the Star Wars Visual Dictionary.  It shows all the Star Wars minifugres ever released, including the various variations of certain characters.  Did you know there have been 6 versions of Boba Fett???  I sure didn’t!LEGO-Star-Wars-Visual-Dictionary-timeline

The set checklist in the beginning of the book is pretty cool as well.  I didn’t realize just how many LEGO Star Wars sets have been released over the years.  My wallet is glad I didn’t feel compelled to get them all, I’m sure.LEGO-Star-Wars-Visual-Dictionary-set-history

Over the years, LEGO has improved on some of their earlier Star Wars designed, and re-issued certain vehicles as new sets.  I really enjoyed seeing these Set History facts.LEGO-Star-Wars-Visual-Dictionary-brick-facts

The Brick Facts are cool, too.  Did you know this Boba Fett with the printed arms is one of the most valuable LEGO Star Wars minifugres available.LEGO-Star-Wars-Visual-Dictionary-MOCs

I found this page, featuring MOCs (My Own Creation) built by renowned AFOLs (Adult Fans of LEGO), quite surprising.  It is refreshing as an AFOL to see the works of my brethren featured in a LEGO book!LEGO-Star-Wars-Visual-Dictionary-bacta-Luke

I must say, I thought I was familiar with all LEGO Star Wars minifigures ever released.  I was not familiar with this Bacta-Tank Luke, however.  Because of this updated and expanded visual dictionary, now I am!LEGO-Star-Wars-Visual-Dictionary-sortingI found this picture fascinating from the perspective of LEGO collecting.  One of the biggest problems faced by AFOLs is the sorting and storage of LEGO elements.  I like these trays with little inserts inside.  And I love the idea of sticking LEGO bricks to the outside of the drawers instead of using labels.  Very cool!

I’ve been collecting LEGO Star Wars sets since the very beginning, but I have to admit, I learned a lot from this book.  It is very well done, and it’s packed with great images and information.  And being a DK book, you know it’s a quality book!

I highly recommend it to you, or to the LEGO fan in your life!
